My oldest daughter Sydney was about to turn four when, in a last-minute attempt to pull together a party activity, I grabbed some dough, a rolling pin, and cookie cutters. To my great surprise the whole thing was a smash success.
The kids were SO excited—and not just to eat cookies. They loved every step of the adventure, from coming up with unique ways to decorate to waiting for the cookies to bake.
It was like an awesome art project that rewards you with a beautiful cookie!
By the time Sydney’s little sister Riley’s birthday came around, I was better prepared. I’d just begun to seek out special ingredients, everything from special, delicious gummies from Spain to all-natural sprinkles and cookie cutters with unique themes—beautiful unicorns and spiderwebs and handwritten script I’d never seen before.
In time, word began to spread—we had a real *thing* on our hands, a new way of designing cookies and a great way to throw a party. With the pandemic, word spread fast. This was something everybody could do at home and have a blast.
